How to be a master programmer

Do not use search engines. Search engines only give you the surface of that ability of which knowing where to look for the answer is the volume. Bootstrap your knowledge by reading man pages and source code. If it takes longer to find the answers you seek at first, that is no problem; soon your body of knowledge will be more voluptuous than it ever would have been.
